Writing Retreats in spain
Join Word After Word tutors Andrew and Fiona and special guests for this 7-night retreat in the Axarquía region of southern Andalusia. Situated at the edge of the Parque Natural the venue for the week is Finca Los Pinos, a walking and mountain lodge with a heated outdoor pool, yoga lawn and wonderful accommodation. Hosts Sarah and David of Cómpeta Hikes have created a real home-from-home and take great care of their guests. We’re delighted to be working with them to create this wonderful week of writing, creativity and relaxation.
What to expect
All accommodation is comfortable, either in tastefully furnished rooms in the main Finca or in unique and traditionally furnished log cabins.
Around the Venue
The 2.5 acre site is nestled in pine woodland and there are plenty of places to sit with a book, notebook and enjoy the peaceful surroundings. Relax on the wooden deck furnished with Moroccan rugs and ornaments, set under a large Algarrobo tree, with views to the Mediterranean Sea and the mountains or swim in pool, which is heated in colder months. It is a wonderfully tranquil setting, in the midst of nature, showing off rural Spain at its best.
Delicious Healthy Homecooked Food
Finca Los Pinos offers a varied menu, with vegetarian and vegan choices available upon request. All food is locally sourced, seasonal, organic where possible and freshly prepared and cooked on site.
The Axarquía region boasts some of the cleanest air in Europe. The Sierras Alhama, Tejada and Almijara are protected. Wild Ibex, wild boar and flora and fauna only found in this area meld with a human history that reaches back to neolithic times. The area’s deep history, natural and human, provides rich inspiration. Whether you’re starting from scratch or seeking to reboot your writing, this is the perfect location to awaken your creativity and take time out to write.

Some Writing Retreat FAQs
Q: I’m interested, but how do I find out more?
A: Send us a message and we’ll get back to you within 24 hours.
Q: You mention that some of the sessions involve walking. I struggle with walking. Will I still be able to take part?
A: We have a few guided walks, carefully chosen to feed your imagination, not only with the natural landscape, but with stories of the land and her people. These are suitable for those with a basic level of fitness, however we can make alternative arrangements if these are not manageable. If you want to go on longer or more challenging hikes on your free days, excellent guides can be arranged locally.
Q: Can I just hang-out in my room or at the accommodation and write?
A: Yes, of course. It is your time and it is up to you whether, or how much, you take part in group activities. We don’t want you to miss out, but if you decide you want time alone to write, that’s your choice, and there are plenty of tranquil places to sit with a notebook and pen or laptop.
Q: I am vegetarian/vegan. Can you accommodate me?
A: Yes, but please let us know any special dietary requirements or allergies in advance.
Q: I’m a complete beginner. Will I feel silly or out of place with more experienced writers?
A: Not at all. We believe that creative inspiration and expression are not the property of certain special people. We all have stories to tell, fictional or not. Whatever the backgrounds or experience of fellow participants, we consider that all who attend are writers and each voice is as valid as the next. We mutually agree to listen, to support and to encourage each other, with constructive feedback and with our full attention
Q: I’m still unsure about a few things. Can I speak to someone before I book?
A: Yes, we’d love to hear from you and answer any questions. Drop us an email and we’ll get back to you by email or phone just as soon as we can.
